Tour through the cemetery
The situation of the Jews in Hamburg and Altona from the 16th to the 20th century is illuminated through the prism of Jewish burial culture and the historical conditions which shaped this are explained. The tour also looks at funerary art as exemplified by selected gravesites. In addition, the fate of the cemetery during the Nazi era is presented, along with the comprehensive restoration completed in recent years.
